Mahama eyes Afram Plains for agricultural transformation

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his administration’s dedication to unlocking the full agricultural potential of the Afram Plains, revealing plans to transform the region into a major hub for agro-processing.

During his address at the Kwahu Business Forum, the President responded to a prior remark about the Afram Plains by expressing gratitude and highlighting his government’s ongoing efforts to revamp the area’s economic significance.

“I want to thank Nana for the comments he made about the Afram Plains, and I want to assure him that Afram Plains is in our sight in terms of its agricultural potential and agro-processing. We’ve labelled Afram Plains a special agro-processing zone, SAPZ,” he said.

He noted that the vision aligns with a broader initiative championed by the African Development Bank and hinted at the government’s intention to secure significant financial backing for the project.

“And in line with the same programme that the African Development Bank is pursuing, we intend to achieve substantial funding from the African Development Bank for investment in the Afram Plains, both in terms of agriculture and agro-processing,” the President added.

However, Mahama emphasized that laying down the necessary infrastructure is a prerequisite to making this transformation a reality. “But to be able to do that, we must first put in the infrastructure,” he stressed.
