Mahama is not making appointments lightly – Fifi Kwetey

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has said President Mahama is treating his current appointments with all seriousness it deserves.
In the last few weeks, there have been agitations from the party grassroots about President Mahama’s appointment of some persons into positions.
Other party members have also lamented about their MPs not being appointed into certain positions.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day, Fifi Kwetey noted that the President has been consulting with top leadership of the party in all his appointments and not merely choosing any individual.
He explained that a lot of party members work behind the scenes to support the party, hence appointment of persons without familiar faces should not be met with opposition and belief that they are not party members.
According to him, President Mahama is aware of the disenchantment by some party members and the machination by members to mar the appointment of some persons.
“President Mahama is not making appointments lightly. There are instances where you (Roland) are interested in a position and when you don’t get it, you find a way to stalk a bit of the disenchantment by creating the impression that the one who has been made to take the place happen to be an NPP person but it’s all part of the game.
“Those who clearly know are aware that President Mahama is much privy to a lot more information than a lot of people think so I can tell you honestly that this is not an issue about just simply granting position to people whose loyalty and hard work for the party is not known,” he stated.
“Sometimes supporters tend to believe that it is only people who are seen on platforms and campaign programmes are those who are only working for the party. A lot of people do not necessarily work in the very front, some of them work behind.
“So, the fact that you do not know somebody, you must not assume that the person is not a member of the party or is not supporting the party,” he added.
Fifi Kwetey believes that the appointments made so far is grounded in the will of the party members.
“I think largely it’s been very well receptive.”
