Mahama must release CJ removal report – Kow Essuman

Kow Abaka Essuman has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately release the full report of the committee that investigated and recommended the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkornoo.

In a statement, Essuman argued that transparency is a constitutional obligation, not an option.

“The people of Ghana, as sovereign stakeholders in the governance of this Republic, are entitled to know how decisions are made, particularly where such decisions touch and concern the sanctity and independence of the Judiciary,” he wrote.

He cited the Supreme Court’s decision in Dery v. Tiger Eye P.I. as precedent, stressing that the confidentiality clause under Article 146 ceases once the committee concludes its work and submits its report.

Essuman insisted the President must release the petitions, witness testimonies, responses from the former CJ, and the final findings. According to him, failing to do so would undermine public trust and fuel suspicions of political manipulation.

“Transparency is not a threat to justice. It is its lifeblood. Let the truth come to light,” Essuman concluded.
