Mahama rejects allegations in ECG container report, calls for fair hearing

Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has refuted allegations in a recent investigative report on the alleged missing ECG containers, asserting that he was never given the chance to respond to claims made against him.

“I was never called. I was never called and asked my opinion about this report,” Mahama stated.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, he expressed concern that despite being mentioned in the report, he was not given the opportunity to present his side.

“As the former managing director of ECG, my name is mentioned in that report, and accusations are levelled against me, yet I was never given an opportunity to present my side of the story.”

Mahama further questioned the accuracy of the report’s claims, highlighting inconsistencies regarding the location of the missing containers.

“Did the minister say the containers were in the custody of ECG? The report says they were at Tema Port.

“That clearly means the containers were not fully under ECG’s control,” he argued. “If the containers were missing under ECG’s full custody, then you can throw whatever stones you want. But they were in a security zone controlled by GPHA, marine police, national security, and customs.”

He also criticized the report for failing to account for crucial details, including legal complications surrounding the containers.

“The report failed to consider several critical factors,” he noted. “Did they investigate whether some of these containers were under litigation?

The PDS arbitration is still ongoing, and we are waiting for the results. Some containers were brought in under the previous administration in 2017 and had their own legal and procedural complications.”

Mahama insists that any review of ECG’s operations should be thorough and fair, ensuring all perspectives are considered.
