Mahama Retains Akufo-Addo’s GIIF CEO After Retaining NPP CEOs at Minerals C’ssion, GACL, FDA, Others

The CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Nana Dwemoh Benneh appointed by the Akufo-Addo administration has been maintained by the John Mahama administration.

The Akufo-Addo CEO was part of an 8-member board sworn in by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko at a brief ceremony in Accra.

His “re-appointment” comes after Rosemond Obeng, an ex aide to former NPP flagbearer, Dr, Mahamudu Bawumia was appointed a Presidential staffer.

The GIIF CEO joins a tall list of NPP CEO and Deputy CEO appointees maintained at post by the John Mahama administration despite agitations within the party for jobs and appointments.

The CEO of GIIF joins his fellow Akufo-Addo appointees at Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi and others at FDA, Ghana Airport among other places who remain at post based on the orders of President Mahama, despite several of their colleagues having being replaced since the new administration.

Nana Dwemoh of GIIF was appointed by President Akufo-Addo in May 2024 to take over from Solomon Asamoah in line with Section 25 (1) of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund Act 2014 (Act 877).

GIIF is a permanent investment vehicle established by the Government of Ghana with US$325 million anchor equity to act as a catalyst to leverage private sector funds into infrastructure assets in Ghana.

The company has been at the center of a legal tussle between Engineers and Planners and Azumah  Resources Ltd over a gold mining project under acquisition dispute between the parties.

The Fund has a governance structure that is independent of day-to-day government control.

GIIF’s mandate gives it the ability to set up, invest and/or manage ringfenced sub-funds such as project development funds as well as sector funds, such as affordable housing.

GIIF can also undertake non-cash generative, non-profit strategic interventions, separately funded so as not to affect GIIF’s profitability.
