Reckless utterances must be punished – Kennedy Agyapong’s team

The Kennedy Agyapong campaign has intensified pressure on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership, demanding disciplinary action against two regional chairmen whose recent comments, they say, undermine the party’s integrity ahead of the 2026 presidential primaries.

In a statement signed by campaign spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng, the team accused Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) of “gross misconduct,” citing viral videos in which the pair allegedly claimed the party’s electoral register was being manipulated to favour a particular candidate.

The campaign described the remarks as “a grave violation of the Party’s constitution” that threatens the credibility and unity of the upcoming polls.

The statement stressed that a mere disavowal by party leadership would not suffice.

“It is wholly inadequate for the party leadership to simply dissociate itself from their reckless utterances. It has to be both condemned and sanctioned,” it argued.

Citing the chairmen’s senior positions as members of both the National Executive Committee and the National Council, the Agyapong team called for their immediate summoning before the party’s disciplinary bodies.

It warned that inaction would only deepen perceptions of bias and fuel suspicions of a deliberate attempt to tilt the race.

“Team Ken remains resolute in its commitment to a transparent, free, and fair electoral process,” the statement concluded, assuring supporters that a strong anti-rigging system has been set up to protect the integrity of the primaries.
