Mahama to unveil ‘The Accra Reset’ at UNGA 2025

President John Dramani Mahama will host a high-level event on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly to launch “The Accra Reset: Reimagining Global Governance for Health and Development.”

“This initiative will introduce a bold and actionable framework to transform the global governance architecture, ensuring it is fit-for-purpose in a turbulent, post-SDG era,” the former Ghanaian president stated in a media advisory released by the Presidency Communications Directorate on September 21.

Mahama said the event would gather “an influential assembly of Heads of State, leaders of multilateral institutions, philanthropic organisations, business innovators, and civil society representatives from across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and global institutions.”

Key announcements include the formation of a Global Presidential Council, which Mahama described as “a pioneering body comprising Heads of State and Government from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and other key regions” to drive the agenda of The Accra Reset.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, added; “The health sector, acutely exposed to global shocks and an unsustainable aid paradigm, serves as the initial focus for demonstrating this new thinking and inspiring systemic action across all development sectors.”

According to Mahama, the initiative builds on the August 2025 Africa Health Sovereignty Summit and “asserts that the era of development-as-usual is over.

What is required now is a fundamental re-engineering—a Reset of the very logic of global cooperation.”
