Mahama woos Chinese investors for Ghana’s green digital city project

President John Dramani Mahama has extended a call to Chinese investors to participate in Ghana’s ambitious green digital city project, a flagship initiative under his administration’s industrial transformation agenda.
Mahama said the project would symbolise Ghana’s future as a centre for green innovation, smart urban development, and renewable energy integration.
He revealed plans to establish a new city spanning the Greater Accra, Volta, and Eastern regions, designed around cutting-edge technology, sustainable energy systems, and modern infrastructure.
“As part of Ghana’s transformation, we plan to establish a new green city that will straddle the three regions of Greater Accra, Volta, and Eastern Regions,” he said at the Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
“I will soon inaugurate an inter-ministerial committee to guide the design and feasibility study of this new city. I will also appoint a transaction advisor to lead the process for the implementation of this important project.”
President Mahama said the development would take place over 20 years in four phases, with the first phase expected to commence before the end of his tenure. He described the project as a “green digital city that will display cutting-edge technology in urban design, planning, and innovation.”
He added that the initiative aligns with Ghana’s 24-hour economy and reset agenda, aimed at generating jobs, promoting industrial growth, and boosting digital transformation.
