National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) has said the Mahama administration is becoming a disappointment following the termination of the last-minute employment by the previous Akufo-Addo administration.
The Mahama government, through a directive by Chief of Staff, Julius Deborah, has dismissed a number of young Ghanaians in various public sectors employed by the previous government.
The mass dismissals have been variously condemned, with some workers’ unions including the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwifery Association, threatening strike action if their members, whom they said were legitimately employed, are not reinstated.
In a Facebook post, Nana B said ” President John Mahama has sacked 1000s of volunteers working across the length and breadth of the country effective 28th February 2025. As part of the ‘JM Resetting’ agenda, even volunteer workers who don’t receive salaries have been sacked. Mahama’s administration is fast becoming a huge disappointment.”
On this same matter, Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, expressed surprise that the Mahama government, which he said campaigned on creating more jobs for the youth, is rather rendering young Ghanaians jobless by dismissing them from their work place.
Expressing concern over the issue in a post on his Facebook page, former Vice President Bawumia, called out the Mahama government, over what he described as “arbitrary” and “unfair” dismissals, and urged the President to protect all citizens by reversing the revocation of employment.
Dr. Bawumia wondered how a government which campaigned on jobs, would now be dismissing young people, who were “legitimately employed” and render them jobless.
“When Ghanaians voted for change in the 2024 general elections, it manifested the desire to continue with national development albeit with different people at the helm of affairs. It was within this spirit that I gave an early concession speech, urging all Ghanaians to support our new President as he attempts to make his contribution to the cumulative progress successive governments have chalked over the years, ” Dr. Bawumia wrote.
“Since assuming office, however, the government of President Mahama has pursued a series of actions targeting Ghanaians who were legitimately employed during the previous administration.”
“It is ir onic that a party which campaigned on the wings of jobs for all Ghanaians is arbitrarily dismissing the same Ghanaians, rendering them jobless, just because a different government employed them to put their talents to bear on the nation’s development and earn income to cater for themselves and their families”
Dr. Bawumia urged President Mahama to be a President for all Ghanaians and protect all citizens, by reversing the dismissals.
