Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Adviser and Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has publicly announced the passing of the President’s brother, Malik Dramani Mahama.
In a touching tribute shared on social media, Joyce wrote: “Rest in power Uncle Malik! May Allah be pleased with your soul! Our cheerleader, may your soul rest in peace eternal.”
Although the First Family is yet to officially release a statement, sources confirm that Malik Dramani Mahama died in the early hours of Friday, July 18, 2025, in the United Kingdom, where he had lived and worked for several years.
In other news, unrelated, President John Dramani Mahama has raised alarm over the growing environmental devastation caused by illegal mining—commonly referred to as galamsey—across key parts of the Western North Region, describing the situation as a “national emergency.”
“We are alarmed by the environmental destruction that is reported across Awaso, Dadieso, and Sefwi-Anhwiaso, mainly due to illegal mining.
“I must be honest, this is a national emergency,” the President stated on Tuesday, July 15, while addressing a durbar as part of his ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’ in the region.
