Majority of Ghanaians say country is headed in right direction – New poll

A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics suggests that public confidence in Ghana’s direction and the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama is on the rise, with significant shifts in approval even from traditionally opposition-leaning regions.

According to the July 2025 survey, 70% of voters now believe the country is headed in the right direction, a notable increase from 62% in April.

Only 20% think the country is going in the wrong direction, down from 26% just a few months ago.

Interestingly, support spans across most regions. The majority of voters in every region except Ashanti agree that Ghana is on the right path.

President Mahama’s job performance received a strong endorsement, with 73% of respondents approving and just 19% disapproving.

This widespread support includes voters in regions traditionally aligned with the main opposition party, marking a remarkable shift in Ghana’s polling landscape.

Approval also cut across political lines—except among NPP supporters, where 46% disapprove of the president’s performance, while 43% give him a nod of approval.

The government’s overall performance scored high marks as well. Voters rated it 18% excellent, 61% very good/good, 10% average, and 11% poor/very poor.

These figures slightly improved from April, when 21% rated the government excellent and 55% said it was good or very good.

On key policy issues, President Mahama’s performance continued to gain traction:

  • 74% approve of his handling of the economy, with just 18% disapproving
  • 67% of respondents support his efforts in job creation, while 22% are dissatisfied
  • On the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), 65% approve of his initiatives, compared to 24% who disapprove

These polling results indicate a clear upward trend in public satisfaction, pointing to a government that is increasingly winning over even its skeptics.
