Mammon is creeping into the church – Woli Arole warns against worship of wealth

Nigerian comedian, Nollywood actor, and now preacher, Woli Arole, has raised a red flag over what he sees as the increasing infiltration of materialism within the modern church.
In a heartfelt message posted on his official Instagram page, the outspoken entertainer-turned-minister expressed his dismay at what he believes is a dangerous shift in the church’s focus — from salvation to financial gain.
“I say this as God’s prophet: Mammon is already creaking into the church. The talk of money, the worship of money.
“Christ did not die so we could become rich; he died so we could have eternal life. Wake up, oh saints. Share this message!!” he warned.
Woli Arole, born Bayegun Oluwatoyin, gained fame through social media with his blend of comedy and spiritual insight, eventually earning a name in Nollywood and among stand-up comedy lovers.
In recent years, however, he has taken a sharp turn toward ministry, becoming known for his fiery messages and unconventional preaching style.
This recent post reflects a growing frustration among some Christian leaders and followers who fear that prosperity preaching is overshadowing the core values of humility, sacrifice, and eternal salvation.
By evoking “Mammon” — a biblical term often used to describe the spirit of greed or wealth worship — Arole’s message serves as both a rebuke and a call to return to spiritual basics.
His plea to “wake up” resonates in a time when some churches are increasingly criticized for prioritizing lavish lifestyles, expensive offerings, and wealth-based testimonies over authentic spiritual growth.
