Man accused of impersonating Prof. Joshua Alabi in GHC60k fraud case

A 40-year-old businessman, Nurudeen Abdul Ganew, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly impersonating Professor Joshua Alabi, a leading figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to defraud a Council of State member, Hakeem Addae, of GH¢60,000.
Ganew faces charges of impersonation and defrauding by false pretences, while his brothers, Nurudeen Rashid and Nurudeen Gafaru, have also been charged with conspiracy to commit crime.
All three have pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of GH¢150,000 each with three sureties.
The court, presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam, adjourned the case to July 21, 2025.
According to the prosecution, on March 3, Ganew posed as an official from the Ghana Revenue Authority and convinced Mr. Addae, who also serves as the NDC Constituency Chairman for Twifo-Atti Morkwa, that he could assist in acquiring auctioned vehicles, including a Toyota Land Cruiser and trucks.
Ganew was arrested at his home in Wa, where authorities recovered four ID cards, three pen drives, four mobile phones, and GH¢14,896 in cash.
His brothers were later apprehended in Wenchi, where a search uncovered 12 mobile phones, multiple SIM cards, and a detailed list of political party executives across all 16 regions—believed to be a target list.
Investigations suggest the brothers formed a fraud syndicate, impersonating high-profile individuals to scam victims including chiefs, queen mothers, and corporate figures.
Ganew reportedly led the operation by contacting victims, while his brothers facilitated mobile money withdrawals from locations such as Wa, Wenchi, Sunyani, Techiman, Koforidua, and Accra.
