Manasseh Azure observes falling food prices in Bolga market

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has shared personal observations of declining food prices in the Bolgatanga Market, suggesting a noticeable improvement in the cost of living and potential political implications heading into the 2028 elections.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Manasseh recounted a recent visit to the Bolga Market, where he engaged in a conversation about food prices with a shop owner and a companion. He noted significant reductions in staple items.

According to the individuals he spoke with, a 50-kilogram bag of rice from Burkina Faso, which previously sold for GHS 700, now goes for GHS 480. A brand of cooking oil has dropped from GHS 200 to GHS 120, while a bag of maize, once priced at GHS 900, is now GHS 500.

“If this should continue until 2028, then we, the NPP, will not have a campaign message. Food is all that some people need,” his companion remarked, referring to the political capital the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) may gain if the positive trend continues under former President Mahama’s leadership.

Manasseh concluded his post by expressing silent approval of the market developments, noting that the decline in food prices aligns with the recently reported drop in inflation figures.

The post has since sparked conversation online about the real-world impact of national economic policies and how market trends are being perceived ahead of the next general elections.
