Martin Amidu accuses Special Prosecutor of Using INTERPOL to destroy Ofori-Atta’s reputation

In a fiery new open letter, Ghana’s former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) under Kissi Agyebeng of abusing its power in a deliberate plot to ruin the international reputation of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Amidu, who was the country’s first Special Prosecutor, claims that even before gathering sufficient evidence for prosecution, the OSP secured an arrest warrant on February 12, 2025, and collaborated with INTERPOL Ghana to label Ofori-Atta a “fugitive from justice.” According to him, the real goal was not justice but public humiliation.
“The OSP’s agenda is to abuse law enforcement powers to disgrace a once-powerful Minister before the international community,” Amidu alleged.
He argued that the move to push for an INTERPOL Red Notice was a premeditated campaign to collapse Ofori-Atta’s image, regardless of the strength of the case against him.
Amidu further raised serious questions about national security protocol, noting that cases with such high-level ramifications should involve briefing the sitting President — a practice he says he strictly followed during his tenure.
He cited a personal example, referencing his 2020 briefing of President Akufo-Addo regarding the controversial Agyapa deal before publishing his findings.
“As the founding Special Prosecutor, I briefed the President on sensitive investigations. Kissi Agyebeng seems to be acting recklessly, possibly for personal or political vendettas.”
The former SP didn’t mince words when he suggested that the current SP might be influenced by either a “businessman baron mentor from Roman Ridge” or might be working in alignment with a supposed NDC strategy named ‘Operation ORAL’, aimed at targeting former NPP officials.
Amidu also referenced a past incident in which a Red Notice against UK-based suspects was revoked, describing Kissi Agyebeng’s foreign trips to interview them in their homes as “unlawful.”
In that light, he questioned the integrity and impartiality of the current SP, warning that such tactics could backfire on the NDC itself.
“If Kissi Agyebeng thinks this Red Notice will boost the NDC’s image, he’s mistaken. It reeks of personal vendetta or dangerous political retaliation.”
