Martin Amidu says removal of Ofori-Atta’s red notice exposes ‘serial incompetence’ at OSP

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has questioned the legal and procedural competence of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) following INTERPOL’s removal of a Red Notice issued for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Amidu, the removal “demonstrated the serial incompetence that has engulfed the OSP under Kissi Agyebeng.”
He argued that the Special Prosecutor “has forfeited the right to investigate and prosecute corruption” because the institution is now “under multiple suspicions of corruption-related misconduct.”
Amidu said the Red Notice, issued on June 5, 2025, was improperly handled from the outset.
“The OSP ignored established legal procedures and even misapplied for Mutual Legal Assistance by writing to the Chief of Staff instead of the Attorney-General,” he said.
He noted that INTERPOL suspended and blocked the notice pending a review of the circumstances surrounding the request submitted by the Ghana INTERPOL Bureau on behalf of the OSP.
Amidu added that the situation illustrates “a disturbing pattern of unprofessionalism,” pointing to what he described as botched investigations and procedural errors in other OSP cases.
He argued that these failings “compromise Ghana’s credibility” in international law-enforcement cooperation.
