Maybe our mothers will make the difference — Ansa-Asare pushes for woman president

Ansa-Asare says Ghana’s lack of accountability for corruption demands new leadership thinking, including electing a woman as president.

He questioned the country’s record of punishing wrongdoing. “What have we done wrong as a nation? How many times has this nation been able to punish wrongdoers? How many of our ministers have been punished or even stigmatized?”

He said corruption recovery systems are compromised. “Elsewhere they will name and shame you, recover the loot and imprison you.

“Here the loot will be shared by the people who have been entrusted to go and recover, including the courts,” he said in an interview on the KSM show monitored by MyNewsGh.

Ansa-Asare placed responsibility on Ghana’s top office-holders. “Let us blame our leaders, the president, the vice president, the speaker, the chief justice, the chairman of the council of state. These five.”

He called for a female-led future. “Next year and the coming years I’ll be advocating for change, that the next president must be a woman.

“We’ve tried our fathers; nothing seems to be working. Maybe our mothers will make the difference.”

He referenced Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as an example of capable female leadership. “The other day I said oh, let Professor be the next president.”
