Military and Police Storm Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo in Coordinated Swoops

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous joint operations in parts of the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions to clamp down on individuals behind recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

According to a statement signed by Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, “the operations, which began today, Wednesday, November 12, 2025, are targeting identified persons involved in the recent attacks on NAIMOS team members, some police officers, and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists.”

The swoops are taking place in the Ashanti Region (Dadwen and Anwoma), the Volta Region (Ehi), and the Ahafo Region (Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani).

Captain Arhin stressed that both the Armed Forces and the Police Service are committed to ensuring the safety of citizens in the affected areas. “Adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of well-meaning inhabitants. We encourage everyone to remain calm and go about their normal duties without fear or panic,” she said.

The statement also carried a strong warning: “Any individual or group that attempts to obstruct the operations of the security services in their anti-galamsey operations or any other lawful duty will face the full force of the law.”

The Security Services further commended civil society groups, the media, and the general public for their condemnation of recent attacks and called for continued cooperation in the ongoing anti-galamsey fight.
