Ministry confirms recovery of 2,637 units

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a significant development in the ongoing investigation into missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), revealing that 2,637 containers have now been traced.
This updated figure, confirmed by the committee tasked with probing the matter, more than doubles the initial estimate of 1,300 containers reported missing in March 2025. At that time, only 40 had been recovered, sparking widespread concern and calls for accountability.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, May 27, Richmond Rockson, Head of Communications at the Ministry, explained that the inconsistencies in the figures stemmed from poor record reconciliation during a ministerial transition.
“In the early stages, we flagged about 3,000 containers as uncleared,” Rockson said. “But when the new Energy Minister took office, the number presented to him was closer to 2,500. Due to the confusion, the Minister called for a thorough investigation to establish the correct figure.”
According to Rockson, the probe found that 2,637 containers were in question and that 2,583 of these are now confirmed to be in the possession of port authorities, helping to clear much of the uncertainty.
He noted that while this is a major breakthrough, investigations are still ongoing and further findings may emerge.
The announcement has reignited public debate around transparency and management of ECG assets, with many calling for improved oversight to prevent future discrepancies.
