Ministry of Defence honours late Omane Boamah’s visionary leadership

The Ministry of Defence has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, commemorating his transformative leadership, dedication, and lasting impact on Ghana’s defence sector.

Speaking on behalf of the ministry’s management team during the Evening of Reflection and Memorial held for the eight victims of the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash, Colonel Ernestina Assan highlighted Dr. Boamah’s remarkable contributions despite his brief tenure.

“Through his transformative leadership and unwavering dedication, he left an indelible mark,” Colonel Assan said. She praised his diplomatic and inclusive approach that fostered strong collaboration within the ministry and beyond, bringing diverse stakeholders together with a shared vision.

Dr. Boamah’s forward-thinking outlook was especially evident in his commitment to modernising the Ghana Armed Forces to meet contemporary challenges.

Under his stewardship, efforts were accelerated to enhance the readiness and capabilities of the military, ensuring it remains robust and adaptable in a rapidly changing security environment.

Beyond defence, Dr. Boamah’s passion extended to agriculture and digitalisation—two key sectors where he sought to infuse innovation and efficiency.

His leadership catalyzed new initiatives aimed at modernising agricultural practices and leveraging technology to streamline ministry operations.

Moreover, his strategic communication skills played a critical role in elevating public engagement with the ministry’s work.

“His positive, productive, and progressive approach was contagious and transformative,” Colonel Assan noted, underscoring how Dr. Boamah inspired those around him to strive for excellence.
