Ministry of Transport begins expansion of Terminal 2 at Kotoka Airport

The Ministry of Transport has commenced expansion works at Terminal 2 of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to reduce congestion at Terminal 3 and enhance overall airport efficiency.
The upgraded Terminal 2 will accommodate both domestic and international flights, with operations set to be introduced in two phases, the Ministry revealed.
This strategic initiative, jointly announced by the Ministry and KIA management, aims to address the increasing passenger traffic and overcrowding issues at Terminal 3 in recent years. The Ministry expects the revamped Terminal 2 to significantly improve the passenger experience and streamline airport operations.
During a working visit to the airport, Transport Minister Joseph Nikpe Bukari emphasized the significance of the project as part of broader efforts to expand the airport’s capacity to handle growing passenger and cargo volumes.
“If you visit Terminal 3 at rush hour, you will realize the congestion there. So, we have partitioned Terminal 2 into two phases — one for domestic flights and the area where we are currently standing for international flights,” Minister Bukari explained.
“This way, we can shift some of the traffic from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2, decongesting Terminal 3 and providing more comfort and space for travelers,” he added.
