Minnesota lawmaker shooter captured after intense two-day manhunt

A two-day manhunt across Minnesota ended with the arrest of 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter, the man accused of fatally shooting former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and critically injuring State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.
Disguised in a fake law enforcement uniform and driving a vehicle that mimicked a police cruiser, Boelter allegedly carried out a targeted attack—going door to door in what authorities believe was a politically motivated rampage.
A handwritten hit list discovered in his vehicle named over 70 public officials, primarily Democratic lawmakers and abortion-rights advocates.
Boelter was tracked down in rural Sibley County and taken into custody without resistance.
He now faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, attempted murder, and federal offenses related to stalking and politically motivated violence.
Governor Tim Walz condemned the attack as “an attempt to assassinate democracy,” vowing that both state and federal authorities will pursue the harshest punishment under the law.
