The Minority in Parliament says the chip-embedded passport project being paraded as a new initiative was fully executed under Akufo-Addo.
In a statement signed by Samuel A. Jinapor, the Minority described the recent launch as a “purported re-launch” and accused the government of distorting facts.
“The planning, procurement, and execution were all done under the Akufo-Addo Government,” the statement read.
They pointed out that the project began after a 2013 ICAO directive and only took shape when the NPP took office in 2017.
The Minority says 50,000 booklets were ready by December 2024, with biometric passports issued to Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and top officials.
“Focus on proper distribution, not PR,” they urged.
They also slammed the re-launch as wasteful and unnecessary.
“It serves no functional purpose and is a burden on the public purse.”
