Minority demands transparency from Health Minister over delayed recruitment and arrears

Minority in Parliament is accusing the government of creating “unnecessary confusion” in the health sector through what it describes as inconsistent and misleading recruitment processes.

According to the Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Health Minister’s recent announcement of new Cabinet approval for health worker recruitment is baseless since the original clearance expired last year.

He explained that funds had already been allocated to employ about 15,000 health professionals under the previous administration, but the new government failed to renew the clearance on time, leaving thousands of professionals stranded.

“The government created a problem and is now trying to fix it after ten months,” Dr. Afriyie said, accusing the Health Ministry of poor planning and lack of coordination.

The Minority further questioned why new Cabinet approval was necessary when both the Ghana Health Service and Ministry had already initiated employment processes for most of the affected workers.

They are demanding full transparency from the Health Minister on the status of recruitment and arrears payments, warning that continued misinformation could deepen mistrust within the health sector.
