Minority MPs Protest Declaration of Kpandai Seat as Vacant, Vow Legal Action

Tensions rose in Parliament today, December 9, 2025, as Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) staged a vociferous protest against the declaration of the Kpandai parliamentary seat as vacant.

The MPs, chanting slogans such as “No Third Term, Mahama,” “We Want Peace, Mahama,” and “Kpandai Must Stop,” expressed strong disapproval of the decision, which they described as politically motivated and unconstitutional.

Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Annor Dompreh,  spoke, insisting that the letter sent to the Electoral Commission (EC) declaring the Kpandai seat vacant must be recalled immediately. “This letter undermines the principles of our democracy and the will of the people of Kpandai. It must be withdrawn without delay,” he stated.

The Minority also announced plans to pursue legal action to block any by-election in Kpandai, warning that attempts to fill the seat could escalate tensions. They have promised to use all legal avenues to ensure that the rights of the constituents of Kpandai are protected.

The seat became vacant after the High Court ruling on November 24, 2025 annulled the 2024 parliamentary election results for Kpandai, following a petition by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate who alleged irregularities, including discrepancies in result sheets from dozens of polling stations.
