Calls for accountability in the wake of the controversial “Dollar Gift” incident have intensified, as the Minority in Parliament takes matters a step further by petitioning three key investigative bodies to investigate the conduct of Acting Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi.
Despite President John Mahama’s decision to accept Gyamfi’s public apology—accompanied by a stern caution—the Minority remains unconvinced. They argue that the matter cannot be brushed aside with a simple apology, particularly given the implications for public trust and ethical governance.
The formal petition, addressed to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), urges a thorough investigation into whether Gyamfi’s actions breached any laws, administrative standards, or ethical codes governing public officials.
Mumuni Mohammed Nurudeen, MP for Nalerigu/Gambaga, is leading the charge, with support from Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu and Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Together, they insist that only an independent inquiry can establish the facts of the case and determine appropriate consequences.
“The integrity of public service must not be compromised,” a source close to the petitioners stated. “No official should be shielded from scrutiny because of proximity to power.”
