Mobile Money blocks over 400,000 scam texts daily to fight fraud

Mobile Money Limited is intensifying efforts to tackle fraud across its platform, with the company now blocking more than 400,000 scam text messages every day.
The Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, Godwin Tamakloe, disclosed this on Channel One TV on Friday, May 2.
He revealed that the company has implemented advanced security filters capable of detecting and intercepting suspicious messages before they reach customers.
“With text messages, we have systems with preset rules that block SMS targeting customers,” Tamakloe said.
“These scam messages often contain certain trigger words, and once detected, they are stopped before delivery.”
He explained that scammers typically operate through SMS, malicious links, or fraudulent calls. By focusing on these channels, the company’s systems can block hundreds of thousands of attempted scams daily.
Tamakloe also addressed widespread public suspicion that some mobile money fraud cases could involve insiders.
He dismissed the claims, stating that personnel within the service chain have no access to sensitive information such as PINs that could be used to compromise user accounts.
“We understand the public’s concerns, but our staff do not have access to customers’ confidential data,” he assured.
Acknowledging the growing number of fraud victims sharing their experiences on social media, Tamakloe encouraged more transparency from affected users.
He said accurate reports help trace fraudulent activities and prevent others from falling victim.
As mobile money fraud continues to evolve, Tamakloe stressed the need for both robust system safeguards and increased public vigilance.
