Mobile money vendor shot dead by armed robbers in Aflao

A mobile money vendor was shot and killed by armed robbers on the evening of Monday, April 28, in Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao, within the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.

The victim, identified as Christopher Ahordo, popularly known as Colombo, was reportedly closing his shop around 6:15 p.m. when two masked assailants in long robes attacked him. According to local journalist Sylvia Awuye, Colombo was working beyond his usual 5:00 p.m. closing time for reasons not yet known.

Eyewitnesses said the armed men, carrying pump-action shotguns, demanded a bag believed to contain money. After taking the bag, one of the robbers shot Colombo in the left side of his chest before they fled into a nearby bush while firing shots indiscriminately to prevent intervention.

Colombo died at the scene. Witnesses were unable to assist him immediately due to the threat posed by the assailants. His body was later transported to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital mortuary.

The municipal police have opened an investigation into the incident.

This killing adds to a growing number of attacks targeting mobile money vendors across Ghana. Several deadly incidents have been recorded in recent months, particularly in the Ashanti Region, intensifying public concern about the safety of mobile money operators.
