Mohammed Amadu Zakou’s “rest well” social media post was a prayer for Vice President

The lawyer for Mohammed Amadu Zakou, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist who is standing trial for publishing false news about the vice president, Lawyer Enoch Afoakwa, has defended his client’s post shared via social media.
Mohammed Zakou, in a social media post on April 4, 2025, asked that the vice president rest well.
This was after the government announced that Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang had to receive medical care in the United Kingdom after expert counsel.
Mohammed Zakou was arrested for his social media post and has since been granted bail.
But speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, his lawyer insisted that his client meant well for the vice president.
To him, the dictionary explanation for the social media post meant she should have a good rest as she goes on a medical break, and therefore there was no need to waste the court’s time with such a frivolous case.
“When you go to Google, it will explain Rest Well to you. It doesn’t mean negativity. The emojis are subject to legal interpretations so I will not want to go into that. When the National Intelligence Bureau interrogated him he explained his meanings to the emojis.
He meant well for our vice president because she is our asset and is taken care of with our taxes. For my client, he was praying for the Vice President but people misunderstood his prayer. He will be exonerated before the law. We should as Ghanaians know that it’s not everything we should ascribe negativity,” he told Asempa FM.
