Mohammed Kudus holds the World Cup in greater esteem than the Champions League.

Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus has given a glowing endorsement of the FIFA World Cup, labeling it the “crème de la crème” of all football tournaments.

While the UEFA Champions League is the pinnacle of European club competition, Kudus firmly believes the World Cup is the “main event.”

Having competed in both competitions, the midfielder favors the World Cup over the Champions League. The West Ham United winger had a taste of the World Cup three years ago when the Black Stars took to the pitch at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar while making his Champions League debut in 2020 at Johan Cruyff Arena against Liverpool.

Kudus, who was one of Ghana’s standout players in the tournament, found the back of the net twice in three appearances, making his maiden World Cup outing a memorable one. For him, no tournament comes close to matching the grandeur of the World Cup.

“It was really nice. I think the World Cup is the best football tournament. The Champions League is up there but the World Cup was just different in Qatar, my first time,” he told Rising Ballers in an exclusive interview.

Having his family in attendance made the experience even more special for the young star. “My family flew all the way to support so it was an amazing feeling.”

Despite the Black Stars’ premature exit from the tournament, Kudus described the experience as “second to none.” “We didn’t go as far as I would have loved us to go but it was nice to experience the World Cup. To be part of it was great,” he added.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, the 24-year-old will be looking to help Ghana book a ticket to the prestigious tournament. The Black Stars will face off against Chad and Madagascar in the upcoming international window, with Kudus likely to play a key role in their quest for back-to-back qualification.
