Morrison warns politically driven decisions caused current glut crisis

Anthony Morrison, CEO of the Chamber for Agribusiness Ghana, has expressed concern over the impact of the current glut on farmers and other industry workers.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition, he said the crisis should not be viewed lightly because it is severely affecting people’s livelihoods.

“This is not a moment of joy for us as a country, for us as industry players, because there are livelihoods out there who are losing their livelihoods as a result of the current glut issue,” Morrison said.

He stressed that the challenge was not the result of any well-planned agricultural strategy. “Let me be clear here, this glut issue wasn’t created as a result of any prudent strategy or policy over the past years.”

According to him, the situation is the outcome of politically driven decisions that failed to consider long-term sector sustainability.

“It was purely a political move, and I think that as a country, this must be a lesson,” he stated.

Morrison urged policymakers to treat the matter as a national learning point, calling for systems that will prevent such occurrences and protect the agricultural value chain.

“We must never allow this situation to happen again, and we must find ways to resolve this issue,” he concluded.
