Director-General of Operations at the Ghana Police Service, COP Vance Baba Gariba, has disclosed that motorbikes should stay 100 m away from every polling station on September 2, 2025, in Akwatia.

He says this is part of the measures to ensure the election is free, fair and devoid of any form of violence.

COP Vance Baba made this known at a media briefing on Friday, August 29, 2025, ahead of the by-election.

“We may not infringe on people’s rights, preventing them from riding their motorbikes; however, these motorbikes will only be entertained 100 metres away from the polling stations. We will not encourage pillion riders during this period, when we have the by-election,” COP Gariba said.

He disclosed that the police has deployed 5,500 personnel who are not in the constituency to intimidate electorates but rather to ensure their safety.

COP Vance Baba Gariba said the police will engage communities where they have been deployed to in order to allay their fears and enaure that they are encouraged to step out and vote in their numbers.
