Mpox cases rise to 19 in Ghana as GHS confirms 10 new infections

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 new cases of Monkeypox (Mpox), bringing the total number of recorded infections in the country to 19.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the GHS revealed that five of the new patients are currently hospitalised and receiving treatment.

Fortunately, no deaths have been reported in connection with the latest outbreak.

Mpox is a viral illness transmitted through close contact with infected persons, animals, or contaminated materials.

Symptoms typically include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, muscle and back pain, headaches, and fatigue.

Health officials are urging the public to adhere strictly to preventive measures, including:

  • Frequent handwashing with soap and water
  • Avoiding physical contact with individuals who have unexplained rashes
  • Promptly reporting suspected cases to the nearest health facility

The GHS has also intensified surveillance and public education efforts across the country in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.
