MPs declaring their support for flagbearer hopefuls has not affected our work in Parliament—Afenyo-Markin

Minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has disclosed that although some Members of Parliament have declared their support for particular candidates in the flagbearership race, it has not affected the way they work together as a caucus.

“I do not think that has affected the way we work in Parliament as a caucus; I don’t see that happening,” he told Accra-based Joy News.

He explained that he had earlier discussed with his colleagues the need not to declare their support publicly; however, some of the MPs made a case for declaring their stance in the flagbearership race, assuring him that they would be decorous in their campaign for their favourite candidate.

On whether he will declare his support for a candidate, Afenyo-Markin indicated that he does not intend to do that, as he will play a role in bringing the party together after the 2026 presidential primaries.

He explained that any candidate cannot trust him if he publicly declares his support for one candidate and has to be part of the team that will unify the political party after the primaries.
