MTN Ghana to roll out scholarships and Special Packages for GJA Members in 2026

Corporate Communications Manager for MTN Ghana, Madam Efua Falconer, has revealed that the telecommunications giant is working closely with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) leadership to roll out special benefits for its members.

According to her, MTN is collaborating with the GJA President and his executives to secure Bright Scholarships for selected journalists in good standing. She also announced that the company plans to introduce exclusive MTN packages for journalists next year.

Madam Falconer made this disclosure during the 2025 MTN Media and Stakeholder Forum, following an appeal by GBC journalist Mr. Kofi Sakyi-Armah for MTN to support young journalists with scholarship opportunities.

The Central Regional GJA Chairman, Mr. Kingsley Nana Buadu, commended MTN Ghana for the initiative and encouraged journalists who are yet to register as GJA members to do so to benefit from the upcoming packages.

During a panel discussion, MTN’s General Manager in charge of Network Operations, Mr. Magnus Coffie, highlighted that fibre infrastructure damage caused by road expansion and other construction activities remains one of the company’s biggest challenges.

“MTN Ghana spends about 20 million cedis annually on fibre relocation,” he revealed, urging road contractors, companies, and stakeholders to collaborate with MTN before starting projects to prevent cable destruction.

“Before you embark on your activities, collaborate with MTN representatives or the Telecommunications Chamber to put up a plan before construction begins. We can relocate cables to a safe corridor to avoid disrupting services,” Mr. Coffie advised.

He added that MTN is committed to expanding its network and ensuring high-quality service delivery across the region.

Meanwhile, MTN’s General Manager in charge of Internal Audit and Forensics, Mr. Michael Gbewonyo, stated that the company is working closely with security agencies to clamp down on scammers targeting subscribers.

He urged customers to remain vigilant when receiving suspicious calls and messages, stressing the importance of public awareness in fighting mobile fraud.
