MTN signs $2 million deal to support four Ghana national teams

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has officially taken on the role of headline sponsor for Ghana’s four national teams: the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets.

The two-year, $2 million sponsorship deal, confirmed by MTN CEO Stephen Blewett during a launch event in Accra on Thursday, will run until August 2027, supporting team development and preparations for upcoming competitions.

“Football is a passion that connects the whole country, and MTN is proud to be part of the journey to take our teams to greater heights,” Blewett said.

The sponsorship comes at a crucial moment for Ghana’s teams. The Black Queens, bronze medalists at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, are eyeing the next WAFCON edition and the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars, who missed qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), are targeting a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Coach Otto Addo and his squad are set to regroup in September for Matchday 7 and 8 qualifiers against Chad and Mali, before concluding the campaign against Comoros and the Central African Republic in October.
