Music streaming came to devalue music—Nasty C

South African musician Nasty C holds the view that streaming of music has devalued music.

He says, unlike previously, when one could make huge gains from CD sales, streaming does not bring in the kind of cash musicians expect from their music.

The South African rapper argues that 3000 streams equals the price of one CD, and that is very devaluing for musicians.

To him, touring as an artiste is what brings in the cash and

Nasty C was speaking to Accra-based OKAY FM in an interview when he made this known.

“I am not on a record label anymore, I’m an independent artiste so I see my money. Most of the money comes from touring, it is not streams. It is not like back in the day when CDs was like hand to hand. The streaming thing kind of devalued music a lot. It takes about 3000 streams to amount to one CD sale. You see your money when you tour and sell merchandize, you have to be creative,” he said.
