My duty is to build on your achievements -Dean praises Prof Atuguba

The new Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, Prof. Atudiwe P. Atupare, has paid glowing tribute to his immediate predecessor, Prof. Raymond A. Atuguba, for his transformative and visionary leadership of the country’s premier law school, stressing that his role will be to build on the solid foundations laid by him.

Prof. Atupare noted that Prof. Atuguba’s stellar leadership as dean has led to unprecedented institutional and infrastructural development at the school.

Speaking at a handover ceremony at the school yesterday [ Thursday 31st July, 2025], Prof. Atupare pledged to hold on to the legacy of his predecessors while striving to improve upon and widen the frontiers of quality legal education in line with the University of Ghana’s strategic goals.

“…I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to my brother, teacher and Dean, Prof Raymond Atuguba. Your tenure has been marked by visionary leadership, steadfast dedication and tangible achievements that have brought pride to this school and to the university as a whole.

You have led transformative initiatives. And these are not just projects but pillars upon which we can build the next chapter of our growth…”

He continued: “Under your leadership, we have seen unprecedented growth, development and institutional visibility on the global stage of legal education.

With great resilience, you have managed to overcome the organisational hurdles to produce results. You deployed creativity, direction, delegation, coordination, monitoring and alliance to engender the spirit of unity and positive energy, an achievement that substantially helps manage individual clawbacks, sovereign egos and weak alumni culture.

I must hold on to this legacy with all my might and will. Moreso, my duty is to complete all that is in transition provided by your vision. My duty, above all, is to extend the frontiers of your achievements to stages expected and contemplated by quality legal education and within the larger context of the university’s strategic goals.”

Prof. Atuguba, on his part, noted that without love for the people, one cannot succeed as a leader.

The handover ceremony was graced by the Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana and other dignitaries.
