My love for Ghana is not because of the 2026 World Cup

Ghanaian footballer Francis Amuzu has stated that his desire to play for the Black Stars extends beyond the current World Cup dismissing claims that he wants Ghana now because he did not make the mark for the Belgian senior national team.

According to him, even if he does not earn a call-up for the 2026 World Cup, he is available to play for Ghana in subsequent tournaments if he’s invited.

Amuzu, who represented Belgium at the youth level, says the processes to switch his nationality are complete, and his love for Ghana stems from his relationship with Ghanaian players.

Amuzu who spoke to Accra-based Asempa FM in an interview, said, “I was born in Ghana, so I’m happy that they qualified for the World Cup. It’s a wonderful tournament to play in,” he said. “If it’s for the World Cup, it will be nice. If it’s after the World Cup, it’s also nice — I will be happy. It’s a dream for me to play for the national team Ghana.”
