My opponents rely on propaganda, I rely on Data

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has hit back at critics within his party, accusing them of relying on propaganda rather than data-driven arguments in the race to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 elections.

Speaking to a crowd of energized supporters during his nationwide tour, Bawumia said, “My opponents have no message for the electorates except to rely on propaganda.

“They claim that as a Northerner, I performed abysmally in all the Zongo communities across Ghana. But that claim is not backed by any data.”

He insisted that his political rivals were determined to discredit him through falsehoods, but stressed his readiness to counter them.

“These people are bent on using propaganda, but I will always use metrics to counter any false or malicious statements aimed at me,”* he said.

According to Bawumia, his own analysis showed a stronger performance compared to what the NPP secured under President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020.

“By the data, I performed creditably well. In fact, in some key areas, I even increased the votes,” he argued, rejecting claims that his faith and background had undermined the party’s electoral fortunes.

He concluded with a firm dismissal of those criticisms, saying, “The suggestion that my personality as a Muslim did nothing to bolster the NPP’s chances in the 2024 elections is simply false. The facts prove otherwise.”
