NACOC intercepts 73 slabs bound for the Netherlands

In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a significant quantity of suspected cocaine at the Swiss Port in Tema.

The operation, carried out on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, halted a cargo shipment destined for the Netherlands.

Upon inspection, authorities uncovered 73 slabs of a concealed substance believed to be cocaine, with a total weight of 89.74 kilograms. The drugs had been meticulously hidden within the cargo, clearly intended to evade detection during the export process.

Following the seizure, four suspects were arrested and are currently in custody as part of ongoing investigations.

Initial intelligence suggests the attempt was part of a coordinated trafficking operation, and NACOC is now working to uncover the broader network behind the smuggling attempt.

The interception signals the Commission’s increasing vigilance and efforts to clamp down on the illicit drug trade, especially through Ghana’s major ports.

It also raises concerns about the evolving tactics of traffickers seeking to exploit the country’s export routes for international distribution.

Investigations are continuing, with authorities expected to provide further updates as they uncover more details surrounding the operation.
