NAIMOS Busts Chinese Nationals Involved in Galamsey

On Wednesday, 8th October, 2025, The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force arrested two Chinese nationals engaging in illegal mining activities in the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve in the Jomoro area of the Western North Region.

Items seized/destroyed include:

  • A Toyota Land Cruiser V8 with registration number GR 442-14.
  • Four excavators
  • Two heavy water pumping machines.
  • 12 makeshift structures were destroyed.

The recent arrest is part of government’s effort to fight the illegal mining menace the country is faced with.

Recently, the president of Ghana in a tweet on X urged the people of Ghana to support him in the fight against illegal mining.

He mentioned that although he has heard calls for a state of emergency, he does not intend to declare because the National Security Council has not counseled him to do so.

However, a group calling itself Dynamic Youth Movement at a press conference urged the president to dissolve the National Security Council.

The group believes that with recent developments, it is worrying that the National Security Council hasn’t advised the president to declare state of emergency.
