Southgate ‘shockingly’ resigns after England’s Euro 2024 loss

Following a defeat in the European Championship final for England for the second time running, manager Gareth Southgate has resigned.

Three years after losing to Italy at Wembley on penalties, the Three Lions fell short against Spain 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday.

In his eight years as manager, the 53-year-old oversaw 102 games for his nation.

“As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England,” said Southgate.

“It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.

“But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter.”
