Nana Konadu placed Ghana on the global map for women’s empowerment – MP

Member of Parliament(MP) for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has praised the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings for elevating Ghana’s global reputation through her tireless advocacy for women’s rights.
Speaking at her final funeral rites, he commended the government for honouring her with a dignified state burial, describing it as a fitting recognition of her lifelong service to the nation and the world.
Mr. Boamah stressed that political affiliations were irrelevant at such a moment.
“Party lines don’t matter today. We may belong to the NPP and she to the NDC, but we are all here to pay our last respects. We simply chose different paths to work for the good of Ghana,” he said.
He described the former First Lady as a distinguished figure whose influence extended beyond Ghana to West Africa, Africa, and the international stage. According to him, Nana Konadu was unwavering in championing women’s empowerment and boldly speaking against harmful practices threatening the wellbeing of women globally.
“All the tributes today reflect the remarkable impact she made. Life is a journey, what matters is the mark we leave behind, and she certainly left a lasting one,” he noted.
Mr. Boamah also highlighted the growing commitment to women’s advancement reflected in the manifestos of major political parties, calling it proof of how seriously the nation now considers the Affirmative Action Bill. He urged future leaders to continue giving women the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
“Women in this country are doing exceptionally well. Honouring their contributions is one of the best ways to celebrate the legacy of our late First Lady,” he added.
