Nana Obiri Boahene Urges Stronger Economic Policies to Boost Ghana’s Development

Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahene, has commended President John Mahama for his management of Ghana’s common funds but stressed that more needs to be done to address the country’s pressing development needs.
Speaking on Okay 101.7 FM on Monday, December 1, 2025, with host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, Nana Obiri Boahene acknowledged that Mahama’s administration has performed better than previous governments in managing state finances.
However, he emphasized that the country requires greater investment in critical sectors such as roads, rail, agriculture, and transportation to accelerate growth.
“Both the NPP and NDC must develop stronger policies that genuinely help the nation, rather than ones that fall short of expectations,” he said.
He pointed to Rwanda as an example of a country successfully exporting crops to generate revenue and boost its economy, questioning why Ghana has not implemented similar strategies.
Nana Obiri Boahene called on policymakers to “up our game” in order to ensure sustainable development and economic progress for Ghana.
