South African rapper Nasty C has outlined the experiences that shaped his career, the discipline behind his music, and his current view of Ghana’s rap landscape during an interview on Joy Prime with Roselyn Felli as monitored by MyNewsGh.
Speaking on his early beginnings, the rapper said music became his only area of focus at a young age.
“Music was the one thing I could concentrate on for hours. I think I fell in love with hip-hop at nine,” he noted. He added that he learned rap naturally, saying, “You just talk and make it rhyme. It wasn’t difficult for me.”
Nasty C also acknowledged the artists who influenced him while growing up, citing T.I. as his earliest inspiration.
“The first thing that caught my attention was a T.I. song,” he said, adding that Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown and T-Pain later shaped his sound.
Transitioning to the Ghanaian scene, the rapper named his current top three Ghanaian rappers. “At the moment, I have to put Black Sherif at number one,” he stated.
He followed with Quamina MP (Quay Art) at number two and Vic Mensa, whom he acknowledged for his Ghanaian roots, at number three. He added that Shatta Wale also ranks highly on his list.
Asked why Sarkodie did not make his top three, he replied, “He’s definitely in the top five, but not in my top three right now.”
On whether he would collaborate with Sarkodie after past tensions, the rapper said the possibility depends on dialogue.
“We haven’t had that conversation. If someone organizes the sit-down, I’ll show up,” he said. “His response to the song I put out was a little spicy, so I don’t know where his head is at, but I’m open to talking.”
