Nasty C says his new album, Free, represents both artistic and personal liberation. Speaking on Joy Prime as monitored by MyNewsGh, he explained that the project reflects a shift away from unhealthy routines and an exit from record-label restrictions.
The rapper revealed that he previously battled habits that affected his lifestyle. “I used to drink every day and smoke all the time.
Substance was rolling all day,” he said. He added that quitting was sudden. “I just stopped. Weed made me anxious, so I dropped it. With alcohol, it became boring.”
Nasty C clarified that he has not completely eliminated alcohol but now limits it strictly to professional settings. “I don’t do it like I used to,” he noted.
Discussing the symbolism behind the album title, he said freedom means stepping away from pressure, whether from labels, expectations, or the stereotypes tied to rap culture. “I do my own thing. People expect rappers to act a certain way, but I’m not that guy,” he explained.
The independent album has already crossed 500 million streams, a milestone he described as gratifying. “I wanted it. I worked day and night with live musicians and handled a lot of the finishing myself,” he said.
Nasty C identified Head Up as his current favourite track. He quoted a key line reflecting the album’s message; “His success is not a threat to mine.” According to him, the lyric counters the growing culture of comparison. “Everyone has their own journey. Let that brother win,” he added.
