Nathaniel Attoh explains what every MC must know before taking the stage

Veteran MC and broadcaster Nathaniel Attoh says professionalism and strong preparation remain non-negotiable for anyone who wants to succeed in the events industry.

“The first question you ask yourself should be the description or the genre of event,” he told Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGh, stressing that every assignment begins with understanding the event type.

He explained that corporate programmes demand a strict tone. “Your appearance is informed by that genre. The language is supposed to be formal and straight to the point.”

Attoh also emphasized the importance of elevating the host brand. “Everything you say has to be directed towards elevating the brand because that is the reason everybody is there,” he said.

Beyond language and posture, he underlined the value of deep research, fluency, and cultural literacy. Citing an example, he recalled being corrected by former President Rawlings during a Mandela centenary event for missing an introduction. “You have to be well-read and abreast of current affairs,” he noted.

On maintaining his reputation, Attoh was firm, “I broke my back to create my brand. I will do every single thing to protect it.”

He revealed that he often steps in to save events when technical or organizational gaps emerge.

“As an MC, emergencies will call on you. Your ability to take pressure and make the stage look as good as it’s supposed to is what defines you,” he added.
