National Asset Management Working Committee sworn in to identify all state assets and account for them properly

Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, PhD, has inaugurated a National Asset Management Working Committee.

The minister believes that the National Asset Management Working Committee is an imperative, considering that Ghana needs a shift in how the country manages its public assets.

Chaired by the Deputy Finance Minister, the National Asset Management Working Committee is expected to ensure that Ghana has a comprehensive State Assets Register.

The Committee is expected to identify all state assets and account for them properly.

The Committee will be chaired by my Deputy, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who has pledged to end the culture of acquiring new public assets without taking stock of what already exists.

Earlier today, I also had the honour of swearing in the National Asset Management Working Committee—a critical step toward transforming how we manage our public assets.

I used the opportunity to share a hard truth: Ghana currently does not have a comprehensive State Assets Register. That must change.

For far too long, government assets—buildings, lands, equipment—have been neglected, misused, or quietly appropriated.

Some individuals now occupy state properties as if they own them, simply because no one is holding them accountable.

This committee is charged with a clear and urgent mandate:

1. Identify all state assets

2. Account for them properly

I also expressed my deep concern about the wanton sale of state lands—particularly those under the Lands Commission.

I’ve tasked the committee to put an immediate stop to this practice.

The Committee will be chaired by my Deputy, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who has pledged to end the culture of acquiring new public assets without taking stock of what already exists.

That culture ends now.

Let us all support this important national assignment.
