NCA shuts down over 60 radio stations for regulatory violations

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered more than 60 FM radio stations to immediately cease operations for failing to comply with broadcasting regulations.
The directive follows a recent audit that uncovered violations including expired licenses, unpaid fees, and failure to meet operational requirements.
The NCA warned that stations continuing to broadcast without authorization face severe penalties, including permanent license revocation.
“The rules apply to everyone—no exceptions,” the Authority stated, emphasizing that compliance is mandatory. Affected stations must resolve all outstanding issues before being permitted back on air.
The crackdown comes under the directive of the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, reinforcing the
NCA’s mandate to enforce broadcasting laws. While acknowledging radio’s vital role, the NCA stressed that an orderly media landscape requires strict adherence to regulations.
